Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership
- Apply financial insights to evaluate the company’s potential, identify areas of uncertainty and resolve them.
- Design and implement strategic plans grounded in financial analysis, while considering broader implications.
- Identify and address financial constraints that hinder growth, proposing innovative solutions beyond current limitations.
- Partner with other company leaders in the creation and execution of long-term Corporate Strategic Plans and annual Business Plans.
- Create forward-looking financial road maps that prioritize initiatives aligned with strategic goals.
- Champion value-creating opportunities and advocate for initiatives that drive long-term success.
- Lead or support major financial and business initiatives across the organization.
Planning and Implementation
- Evaluate new service lines, geographic expansion, and industry diversification opportunities.
- Analyze and communicate the financial implications of strategic initiatives, both short and long-term.
- Lead the development and execution of the company’s annual budgeting process.
- Coordinate cross-departmental input to produce comprehensive budget documents, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections.
- Establish and maintain a companywide Cost Control Plan, including authority levels.
Reporting and Analysis
- Provide strategic, data-driven insights that extend beyond financial metrics.
- Highlight operational blind spots and recommend actionable solutions.
- Deliver historical financial data and trend analyses to identify opportunities for cost savings and profit enhancement.
- Conduct scenario planning and sensitivity analyses to evaluate strategic options.
- Define and communicate KPIs that offer meaningful insights into company and departmental performance.
Accounting Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing team, ensuring cross-training and professional development
- Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting and accounting processes.
- Oversee compliance with all external reporting requirements, including audits, tax filings, and regulatory submissions.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure adherence to procedures, accuracy and compliance with cost control and approval protocols.
- Oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting software and systems.
- Continuously evaluate reporting needs to support effective management.
- Identify and implement system upgrades or transitions to support growth.
Working Capital Management
- Monitor and manage the company’s working capital to support growth initiatives.
- Develop forecasting models for cash flow and identify opportunities to strengthen liquidity.
- Analyze variances in projected vs actual cash flow and implement corrective measures.
- Collaborate with Estimating to optimize contract payment terms and minimize retainage.
- Ensure timely filing of liens and preservation of lien rights.
- Maintain accurate cash forecasting to anticipate funding needs and support financial planning.
Fixed Asset Management
- Safeguard and manage company fixed assets to minimize risk and ensure proper utilization.
- Enforce compliance with asset purchase procedures and approval levels
- Periodically review asset performance and disposition needs, ensuring accurate recordkeeping.
- Use reporting tools to assess profitability and utilization, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Treasury
- Direct the company’s financial planning to ensure long-term stability and capital adequacy.
- Prepare and present funding proposals with comprehensive documentation.
- Coordinate with Preconstruction to manage bonding needs and capacity.
- Maintain and update bonding utilization reports; negotiate increases as needed.
- Evaluate lease agreements and conduct lease-versus-buy analyses to ensure favorable terms.
Companywide Financial Leadership and Support
- Serve as a strategic financial advisor across all business units.
- Collaborate cross-functionally beyond traditional CFO responsibilities.
- Act as a financial advisor to all levels of management.
- Support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
- Maximize ROI through informed financial decision-making.
- Provide cross-departmental support for special projects outside of accounting.
Risk Management
- Conduct ongoing risk assessments across assets, transactions and operations.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies to protect the company from loss.
Internal Controls
- Maintain and update SOPs and approval authority levels to support growth and control.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal policies. Implement KPI reporting to monitor internal control effectiveness.

- Proficient in accounting application systems (server and cloud-based software, accounting software requirements definition, conversions).
- Solid working knowledge of accounting system structure, processes, and reconciliations.
- Able to manage, supervise, identify, recruit, and develop staff within department.
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Accounting, or Finance required, master’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior Finance role, demonstrating a strong track record of financial leadership in a multi-state, multi-division environment. Extensive work experience in the construction industry, with deep familiarity with the financial, operational, and regularity complexities unique to construction-related businesses.
