Crown Shy is the first solo project of Chef James Kent. Inspired by James’s upbringing in downtown New York and his experience leading the city’s most celebrated kitchens, Crown Shy is a neighborhood seasonal restaurant elevated by fine dining training and technique.
Located on the ground floor of Art Deco masterpiece 70 Pine Street, the dining room and bar occupy a series of rooms with floor to 16-foot-ceiling windows leading to an open kitchen.
The food at Crown Shy is rooted in European technique but draws inspiration from around the world, primarily the flavors from our childhoods, traveling, and the diverse cuisine in New York City.
Crown Shy has been awarded 1 Michelin star & 2 stars by the NYT and has been acknowledged as one of the most popular new restaurants in the city by multiple publications.

As a Sommelier at Crown Shy you are responsible for helping to maintain the integrity of the wine program while facilitating proper wine service in our dining room. you are responsible for not only thoughtful, attentive wine service, but also a general helpful demeanor towards colleagues with a keen sense of guest’s needs. The Sommelier should work closely with the Server team to ensure guest satisfaction and smooth service.
The wine list is an eclectic mix of wines from every major winegrowing region of the world. We will strive to showcase true diversity in our wine offerings with an innate understanding of historic regional significance and a forward-thinking view towards up and coming potential. An open mind and passion for great wine of varying provenance will allow us to build a legendary wine program that truly speaks to the potential of an international wine list. Crown Shy believes in a ‘whole house’ mentality and we expect all departments (Pastry, Savory, Dining Room, and Facilities) to support and motivate each other to achieve our goal of guest satisfaction. As a Server, you will interact with all of these departments regularly and should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with your co workers & managers.
